Interview Highlights

Court case may delay HK-Zhuhai bridge

Plans for the construction of a massive bridge linking Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macau may be delayed, after the High Court ruled that an environmental impact assessment on two key constructions related to the project was not done properly.
Mr Justice Fok ruled in favour of a Tung Chung resident who challenged the legality of the report, saying that the authorities had failed to comply with guidelines on how such reports should be conducted. Nick Beacroft asked the director of the Conservancy Association, Albert Lai what he believes the next step should be. (3.12 mins)

Plan to tackle unauthorised data sales

The government has proposed criminalising the unauthorised sale of personal data, with a maximum fine of HK$1-million and five years in jail. This follows the controversy over the MTR Corportation making money from the sale of personal information of subscribers to its reward scheme. Byran Curtis asked councillor Ronny Tong, who's a member of Legco's Constitutional Affairs Panel for his view on the new proposals. (3.08 mins)

Debt warning rocks US

The United States has been warned that the credit rating on its government debt could be cut by Standard & Poor's. S&P is concerned that Democrats and Republicans will not be able to agree a plan to reduce the growing US deficit. It has downgraded its outlook from stable to negative, increasing the likelihood that the rating could be cut within the next two years. Bryan Curtis asked Puru Saxena of Puru Saxena Wealth Management for his interpretation of the S&P comment. (4.50 mins)

New websites on aviation-weather disaster risk reduction

The Hong Kong Observatory yesterday launched its website on aviation-weather disaster risk reduction. Part of the service will involve the release of information on windshear and turbulence - which will be collected with the help of a Government Flying Service aircraft - the first time this is being done in the Asia-Pacific region. Nick Beacroft asked Captain Eric Leung of the Government Flying Service how the website works. (3.31 mins)
