In 2009, Mila came all the way to an inland country, Malawi, where situated in southeastern Africa. She works as a volunteer for an orphanage founded by a Buddhist organization.
Malawi was rated as one of the world's least developed countries by the United Nations. Its HIV infection rate ranks ninth in the world. Among its 13 million population, more than one million children whose parents have died of AIDS related diseases and have become orphans.
The orphanage, which Mila services, is in Malawi's second largest city, Blantyre. It was founded by the Taiwanese Master Hui Li in 2002. The orphanage currently accommodates more than 30 children. Mila came to the orphanage and has been living in one of its dormitories and taking care of the children with the local nannies.

Mila is a Chinese from Hong Kong, married and was a housewife after giving birth to a baby girl. After the girl has grown up and her beloved mother passed away, Mila lost her own life goal. Therefore, she decided to come to Africa to work as a long term volunteer and hopes to contribute something for the rest of her life.
In addition to take up the role as the children's nanny, Mila also shoulders the general duties in the orphanage. She is responsible for procurement of food supplies in the market, arranging the daily supplies distribution to the children in the orphanage. She also distributes supplies to some impoverished villages where the orphanage sponsors.
